Why is conserving and protecting the oceans important to you?
Having spent of much of my life in and around the sea, I believed that I had an understanding of how much the sea needs our help. So when I founded Finisterre back in 2003, I knew this would be at the heart of the brand; I’m proud to say that nearly twenty years later it’s more prevalent than ever.
What are you doing that is better for the oceans?
It’s a journey we embark on every day and one we are constantly working towards – we still have a long way to go. This could be around better fabric choices in our products (natural fibres, bio rubbers), promoting circular manufacturing and better consumption to helping our community get involved in ocean activism (Sea 7 https://sea7.finisterre.com)
What do you think the surfing industry specifically can be doing to support the health of the oceans?
Commit to making better, more enduring product made from more ocean friendly fabrics and help the customer understand these choices. The best product is the one that lasts the longest.
Can you recommend any books, brands, organisations or people our followers should check out for inspiration?
All of the speakers at our online Ocean Activist Training Camp, see link https://sea7.finisterre.com You can listen to the speakers from many areas of the Global Ocean Community. The aim was to inspire activism, no matter where you are on that journey.
Any final message you would like to share?
Never underestimate the power you have to make happen the change you want to see.
