INTERVIEW: Leah (Palms in the Wild)

INTERVIEW: Leah (Palms in the Wild)

1. WHY IS CONSERVING AND PROTECTION THE OCEANS IMPORTANT TO YOU?

In my opinion, now is the perfect time to be giving back to the wonderful planet we live in. Humans have long taken what they need from the Earth but there’s a wider awareness of how we must live in harmony with it now and for me, it was an essential component of my business to conserve our environment including the oceans, forests and beautiful natural wonders we’re surrounded by to ensure we protect it and live more sustainably.

2. WHAT ARE YOU DOING THAT IS BETTER FOR THE OCEANS?

Everything we do has an impact on our world. I specifically chose to make my yoga mats out of recycled plastics which is comprised into a microfibre suede which contributes to a cleaner ocean. I believe all the waste we create can be given a new lease of life rather than disposed of it after one single use so it’s great to know that no new waste is being created out of my products. Palms In The Wild is partnered with One Tree Planted and we work with a replanting project in Sumatra, Indonesia to plant new palm trees for any mats sold!

3. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SURFING INDUSTRY SPECIFICALLY CAN BE DOING TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH OF THE OCEANS?

My outlook would be that we need to work as a team to increase all the good progress we want to achieve. Partnerships with ocean conservation projects and charities are a great way to spread awareness and gather new supporters through events, sponsorship and encouraging people to respect the ocean.

4. CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY BOOKS, BRANDS, ORGANISATIONS OR PEOPLE OUR FOLLOWERS SHOULD CHECK OUT FOR INSPIRATION?

Our sponsor @OneTreePlanted is a hugely inspiring organisation as they have a huge global ambition and get many communities involved in this mass tree planting revolution.

@thatwildfeeling for sea inspired art, jewellery and homeware.

ANY FINAL MESSAGE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

The important thing to remember is that we’re all capable of doing our own bit, big or small – it’s all crucial to just be conscious of our environment and there’s something each of us can contribute in our own way.
